Spring has finally arrived, and it’s a time for the renewal of life and all other good things in it. Hit the reset button for your mind, body, and spirit with these great suggestions for health, nutrition, fitness, and joy.

Spring Clean your Mind

Few things are as distracting as social media, so one of the first things you can do to free your mind of clutter is to take a break from your Instagram and any other accounts. According to Statista, the average U.S. adult spends 65 minutes a day on social media. That’s more than an hour during which your focus is fragmented. Mental health experts believe the time you spend can increase feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression, and some advocate limiting usage to 30 minutes a day or less. Other ways you can rid your mind of unnecessary clutter include:

Meditation

With all the meditation apps now available (many of them for free), there’s no reason why you can’t tune in to a guided meditation once a day. Even if you’re a complete newbie at it, you can find audio or visual options online to walk you through the process.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present and aware of where you are and what you’re doing, so you can enjoy life to its fullest. There’s growing research that shows when we train our brains to be mindful through daily practice, we’re actually remodeling the physical structure of the brain.

Do a Morning Brain Dump

When something is weighing on your mind, taking a minute to write it out can help you get the most out of your day. Wake up and spend 15 minutes journaling. Aim to write about three pages in longhand, which aren’t shared with anyone. The point is to externalize your mind’s chatter, so you experience a clutter-free mind.

Spring Clean Your Body

During the winter, many people spent far too much time sitting around and eating unhealthy foods. Spring is a good time to declutter your body by eliminating the toxins you might not even realize you’re carrying.

Do a Chemical Detox

The world is under an enormous chemical burden, with around 350,000 chemical substances in use, according to the American Chemical Society. Some of the common toxins found in most people are:

  • Bisphenol A – found in many plastics
  • Phthalates – used to soften plastics and fragrance products
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers – found in mattresses, upholstery carpets and electronics
  • Organophosphate pesticides – found on many non-organic foods
  • Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances – AKA Teflon, used for non-stick cookware
  • Triclosan – an anti-microbial found in body washes and toothpaste
  • Volatile Organic Compounds – found in some paints, varnishes, cleaning products, glues, cosmetics, engineered wood products, and disinfecting products.

Change Your Diet

Support your detox by switching to a healthy diet high in antitoxins that help eliminate some of these chemicals. Herbs like milk thistle and dandelion, supplements like NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) and alpha lipoic acid, vitamins and minerals like B vitamins, magnesium, and zinc, all have benefits. However, the best place to start is food. You are what you eat, so using healthy foods to promote detox helps deal with the root cause of the problem.

Clean Out Your Cells

Your circulatory system is the body’s natural way of removing waste products from your tissues. Boost your microcirculation with some healthy nutrition and spur the transmission of life-giving oxygen throughout your system. Oxygen carried in the bloodstream cleans out your cells, helps you to replace cells that wear out, supplies you with energy, and supports your immune system.

Spring Clean Your Soul

Few actions can make you ready to face another year than spring cleaning your soul does.

Release Negative Energy

Get rid of any negative energy you’re carrying around and balance your chakras with Ayurvedic practice. Eliminate negative self-talk and stories, revisit your cultural programming, and reconnect with nature to uplift your spirit.

Use Your 5 Senses

Practice visualization to determine what you want to achieve, using all your five senses. This process directs your subconscious to embrace the end goal you have in mind and trains you to respond as if the outcome were true in the present moment.

Connect with Others

Find soulful activities to participate in with others. Get out and truly connect with family, friends, and colleagues. Identify activities that fill your soul with happiness and light you up. Connect with your tribe and have soulful conversations that reignite your passions. Bringing happiness to others gives us a sense of purpose and helps to spread joy and positivity.

Spring Clean Your Environment

There’s a reason why people throughout history have indulged in spring cleaning their homes. Getting rid of the cobwebs and dust, cleaning winter weather residue from the windowpanes, and refreshing your home to align with the garden’s rebirth revitalizes you.

Start your clean slate by decluttering your environment. Donate, sell, or dump anything you haven’t used in the past 12 months. Sort your remaining possessions and determine whether you need to keep them, repair them, or replace them.

Clean out the storage areas in your home and re-organize them, so everything has a place where it belongs. Commit to putting things back after use so you don’t ever have to tidy up after yourself, and plan a quarterly once-over to keep your plan on track.
